Staying Organized Through the New Year

Dec 10, 2015 | Uncategorized

Your desk is buried beneath piles of paper and all those reminder notes you’ve written look like wallpaper. It can be tough to get any actual work done in an environment like that! Disorganization isn’t just unsightly, but it can also cause a decrease in productivity, too.

Keeping organized enables you to focus your attention on the tasks that really need it, like setting up the next important meeting or finalizing the latest project. Here are a few tips for keeping your workspace organized:

• Avoid clutter — Clutter has a way of creeping up, doesn’t it? Make a regular, conscious effort to keep your workspace clear, and you’ll have clearer focus, too.

• Use one central planner — If your meetings and appointments are scattered throughout your computer, phone and desk calendars, chances are it could be easier to keep track of your schedule. Keep a consolidated personal calendar to spot schedule conflicts or openings at a glance.

• Categorize your files — Try giving each project its own folder or box. Documents relating to that project should stay together, so that when you need to access them again, you won’t be at a loss for where to look or lose half your day before finding them.

Start the New Year with your best foot forward by first taking control of your workspace. Sometimes, getting organized can take a backseat with such a busy business and personal life, but don’t let it get overlooked. It doesn’t take much to keep your space organized; just a few conscious steps and you’ll be in the habit of staying organized in no time.
