Meet Tiffany E. Slater, PhD
HR TailorMade
We caught up with Dr. Slater, Chapter President, to hear the story behind her Human Resources consulting business, HR TailorMade.
How did you get started in your business?
I have been an HR professional for 26 years, this year. So, professionally, HR is the only thing I have ever done. When I quit my job (as a result of stress and misery), I knew that HR had to be the skill I used. And because I love it, it made sense.
How long have you been in business?
3.5 years serving the local and national markets – not yet global!
Describe your key client:
Small Businesses with 5-50 employees in the professional services or non-profit sector. We work with clients that understand and appreciate the value of their team to their business.
What brought you to NAWBO?
My aunt, LaThea Morris. She has always been my influence, professionally. Because of her long-time membership with NAWBO and all of the wonderful stories she shared about her experiences, I knew that NAWBO needed to be a part of my entrepreneurial journey.
What have you gotten out of NAWBO? In a short period of time, I have gained new sisters. These are women I might not have otherwise known or interacted with. Yet, I truly enjoy the camaraderie and enthusiasm that we share around female entrepreneurship.
Fun fact – Entrepreneurship is in my blood. My parents were entrepreneurs who owned a lounge and laundromats. My great aunts owned a cosmetology school and hair salon where I spent several of my Saturdays watching those amazing women run a business and provide much-needed therapy to each person that sat in their chairs. My uncles (4 of them) were all entrepreneurs. My brother-in-laws each own a business (IT training, Insurance, Group Homes, and real estate). My aunt, my idol, is an entrepreneur who introduced me to NAWBO through her positive experiences and long-time membership. All of these amazing people taught me that successful business ownership is possible and more importantly, so is creating the life of your dreams.
