WBC2016 Q-and-A
Jenn Lim is the CEO and CHO (Chief Happiness Officer) at Delivering Happiness (DH), a company she and Tony Hsieh (CEO of Zappos.com) co-founded to inspire science-based happiness, passion and purpose at work, at home and in everyday life.
Jenn has been a consultant with Zappos from its start-up days in 2003 to the $2-billion business it is today. Her experience with Zappos, combined with her development of scientific frameworks for workplace happiness, created the evidence that happier employees = happier customers = successful companies (and meaningful lives).
We spoke with Jenn about what it means to lead the way and what she hopes you will take away from her presentation at this year’s National Women’s Business Conference.
Q: What’s next for you and your business, and how will you get there?
DH is changing the way the world works—with culture and happiness—one person, company and community at a time.
Q: What are some areas today where you see women entrepreneurs leading the way?
I see women leading with strength and empathy.
Q: How have you led the way in your business and community in the past year?
DH is the only coachsulting company in the world—coaching + consulting—that is making impact in companies, hospitals and governments. (One of our clients is the government of Dubai.)
Q: In what areas do you hope to see women leading the way next?
I hope to see women scaling strength and empathy to other leaders (men and women alike).
Q: Why is a conference like this one for women entrepreneurs critical?
Connections and communities are created to support a people with shared purpose and values—since women entrepreneurs aren’t the norm, bringing together this collective is how women entrepreneurs will eventually be the norm.
Q: If women walk away from your presentation with one thing, what do you want it to be?
1. Be true to your (weird) self.
2. Live with passion and purpose.
3. Change the world more than you ever thought possible.
Q: How will you lead the way this year for your business and all women entrepreneurs?
Continue doing what I’m doing—changing the world more than I ever thought possible.
Q: Who is one woman from the past or present who inspires you when you think about leading the way, and why?
Maya Angelou—one who consistently lives true to herself.
