As Diversity Push Intensifies, Pinterest Is Latest to Hire Chief of Inclusion

As diversity comes under the microscope in the tech industry, Pinterest became the latest company to appoint a head of diversity to help redress abysmal statistics in hiring and retention of women and underrepresented minorities.

“Diverse teams—in terms of demographics and thought—outperform homogeneous teams on innovation and problem solving,” said Candice Morgan, the company’s first diversity chief.

Morgan, who spent nearly a decade at Catalyst, a research firm focused on women in business, is tasked with achieving ambitious goals Pinterest established in July, among them a 30 percent hiring rate for women on its engineering staff.
