NAWBO SAN DIEGO DEIB COMMITTEE: 

DESCRIPTION AND INFORMATION TO JOIN

Purpose:  

The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Committee within the local chapter of NAWBO San Diego focuses on promoting and advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and a sense of belonging among the chapter members. The committee’s primary goal is to create an environment that values, respects and provides the space for meaningful participation for women from all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences. 

Scope and Operations: 

Members of the DEIB Committee will work together to develop operating guidelines for the committee to work together throughout the year.  Through its operations, the committee’s scope is focused on: 

  •  Developing strategies, initiatives, and practices that foster access, inclusion, equity, and belonging in our chapter.  

  • Fostering a chapter culture that celebrates differences, mitigates bias, and enables members to thrive and contribute to their fullest potential. 

  • Fostering an environment where members can express their opinions, concerns, needs, and experiences without fear of consequences, in alignment with the NAWBO values, mission, and vision, and in pursuit of furthering DEIB in the chapter. 

Responsibilities: 

The committee members’ responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  

  • Assessing the current state of DEIB within the chapter and identifying areas for improvement. 

  • Developing and implementing initiatives to recruit and support individuals from a variety of backgrounds, including specific initiatives to support women who identify with historically minoritized, marginalized identities.  

    • These efforts include overseeing and handling the DEIB Membership Scholarship outreach, application, promotion, and selection process.  

  • Reviewing chapter policies and practices to ensure they are inclusive and equitable, and in line with the National NAWBO and National NAWBO DEIB Committee goals and policies. 

  • Promoting, distributing, designing, and/or holding education and training programs to increase awareness and understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion issues within our chapter. 

  • Planning and implementing efforts in collaboration with other committees within the chapter to integrate DEIB into all aspects of the chapter’s operations, leadership, and offerings.
