Dallas Wings Host NAWBO and Women Organizations for Inspiring Women Night

Aug 19, 2024

The Dallas Wings recently teamed up with GEM, Girls Empowered by Mavericks, to host a special “Inspiring Women Night” during their game against the Connecticut Sun. This incredible event brought together leaders and members of various women organizations, including NAWBO, to celebrate and uplift women in sports, business, and the community.

The night kicked off with an engaging pregame panel titled “Women Shaping DFW Sports,” moderated by Dallas Wings Vice President of Social Responsibility, LaDondra Wilson. The panel featured a powerhouse lineup of women making significant impacts in the sports industry across North Texas. Speakers included Dori Neil Arazi, Founder & Principal of Trinity FC; Amber Cox, COO of the Dallas Wings; Katie Edwards, Chief Impact Officer for the Dallas Mavericks; Gina Miller, VP of Media & Communications at FC Dallas; and Monica Paul, Executive Director of the Dallas Sports Commission. Their discussions highlighted the evolving role of women in sports and the importance of leadership and innovation in breaking new ground.

At halftime, the event continued with a special fireside chat led by WFAA anchor and reporter Dia Wall, featuring the 2024 Nancy Lieberman Trailblazer Woman of Inspiration Award winner, Wanda Sykes. This intimate conversation was one of the many highlights of the evening, providing inspiration and insight from one of the most accomplished figures in entertainment.

The night also celebrated notable women for their outstanding contributions. Our very own president-elect, KJ Johnson, and Dress for Success were recognized for their impactful work. Additionally, Dr. Cheryl “Action” Jackson was honored as the 2024 Community Woman of Inspiration Award winner, and Danyel Surrency Jones received the 2024 Businesswoman of Inspiration Award. Both women were recognized alongside Sykes and Lieberman during the halftime celebration.

The Dallas Wings also took time to honor the legacy of women in basketball, celebrating WBL and WNBA alumni during this special night. “Inspiring Women Night” was a true testament to the power of women supporting women and showcased the incredible impact of female leadership in sports, business, and beyond.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a significant event and look forward to continuing to inspire and uplift women in our community and beyond.
