NAWBO Continuing To Advocate for WBOs In Light of Executive Orders

Feb 4, 2025

NAWBO National CEO Jen Earle and NAWBO National Board Chair Dr. Janis Shinkawa met with:

  • U.S. Senate Committee on Entrepreneurship Majority staff
  • U.S. Senate Committee on Entrepreneurship Minority staff
  • U.S. House Committee on Small Business Majority staff
  • U.S. House Committee on Small Business Minority staff

They also spent time with some of our national partners discussing the importance of supporting women business owners.

On the Senate side, we learned that they are still trying to figure out what the recent Executive Orders mean for women business owners. They also focused on the SBA Administrator’s nominee hearing that was held on Wednesday, which can be viewed here. You will notice that at minute 1:58:13, Senator Markey started a second line of questioning, which included asking questions about Executive Orders superseding the law. He also asked specifically about women business owners.

On the House side, we learned that Republicans will be looking to help women business owners, but they are still formulating the committee’s focus areas. They were interested in hearing about our microbusiness definition and the areas in which women business owners benefited from our tax code.

CEO Earle and Board Chair Shinkawa will be back in Washington, D.C., the last week of February. If there is something you want them to discuss with lawmakers or if you would like to be added to our index of potential hearing witnesses, please email [email protected].
