5 Reasons You Should Invest in Personal Growth

Like other successful businesswomen, I’ve always understood the importance of investing in my own company. From modern equipment and fleet vans to a solid 401(k) plan for my employees, I put my hard-earned dollars to work. While we all value every opportunity to help our companies grow, we also need to invest in ourselves.

You’re Always Your Best Investment

Whether we own a home office or a manufacturing site, every woman’s job is big. My field is no exception. My Chicago-based company specializes in water and fire damage restoration and cleaning across the city and suburbs. Over the years, I’ve found that my biggest ROI comes from investing in personal growth. Here are five compelling reasons for investing in yourself as a solid strategy for business success.

1. There Are So Many Great Opportunities

I find that learning from other businesswomen is very empowering. There are so many organizations here in the city, and NAWBO stands out with a great array of resources. You can network through conferences, gain inspiration from guest speakers and hone new skills at workshops. From the Chicago Crain Leadership Academy to Goldman Sachs’ 10K Small Business Program, your avenues for investing in self-discovery are wide open.

2. Investing in Yourself Is Inspiring

We equate money with success, but personal development is an evolution that doesn’t stop when you reach your financial goals. If you sense a plateau in spite of your achievements, focus on one thing about yourself that you want to improve. Make that your goal, and invest in surpassing the mark. For every weakness you overcome, you gain a new strength, and that’s a continual source of inspiration.

3. Personal Development Boosts Business Success

As I built my business from the ground up, the day-to-day operations seemed to consume all my energy. Since then, I’ve become involved with organizations and activities that help me better balance my leadership role. I accomplish goals quickly, make long-lasting connections and handle decisions with confidence. From investing in my understanding of digital marketing to the trust I put in my amazing employees, I’m the leader I want to be. My personal development helps me keep my business successful.

4. Giving Back Is Your Best Reward

I was blessed with a wonderful mentor who taught me so much through her experiences developing her own business. She helped me to grow personally so that I could be my very best professionally. Now, I help other women find their focus. This kind of clarity opens up endless possibilities and opportunities. I wanted to become a leader who could help other people. I’m well along in that journey, and I’m honored to share my knowledge with other business women.

5. You Always Have Room to Grow

I still feel as though I lack strength in some areas of my professional life. However, I know that investing in personal development is an ongoing journey that results in more than just self-improvement. I continue to discover positive things about myself, and that leads to new ways to handle my business, address problems and face the future with real self-assurance. Knowing that you have room to grow is an invaluable strength all on its own.

You’re Always Worth It

I’ve run my own business for many years, and I’m proud of its success. Investing time in personal growth allows me to develop the confidence I need to make the best decisions for my company every day. The boost in my self-esteem is a wonderful bonus.

Just remember: You’re always your own best investment, and you’re always worth it.
