How do you uphold integrity in your business, even when faced with difficult decisions or challenges?

Arely Lagunas
CEO
Evolve HR & Leadership Consulting

Evolve HR & Leadership Consulting was founded in March 2023 to address a gap in HR resources available to both English and Spanish-speaking small business entrepreneurs. As an HR practitioner with 18 years of experience, I’ve seen firsthand how critical integrity is in building lasting relationships and driving meaningful change. Integrity is not just a value, it is the foundation of every decision I make.

When faced with difficult situations, I remind myself why I started this journey: to empower businesses and individuals with the right tools and knowledge to thrive as business leaders. Challenges and distractions will always arise, but I stay grounded by asking, “Does this decision align with my values and the impact I want to create?” Staying true to my principles, even under pressure, ensures that my work remains authentic and impactful.

Integrity is more than a guiding principle to me, it’s a commitment to fostering trust, authenticity, and empowerment in every interaction. My goal is to leave a legacy that reflects these values.

Integrity in business is something I hold dear, especially when faced with difficult decisions or challenges. One of the ways we uphold integrity at our company is through the open book management process. This means we share our financial numbers transparently with our employees, teaching them how to understand and analyze them. It’s important to me that our team feels empowered to see the full picture and understand how their actions can directly affect the business’ success. We also have a gain share program, where if the company makes a profit, a percentage is shared with employees. This not only aligns everyone’s interests but also incentivizes the team to work together toward the common goal of profitability. When faced with sales challenges, we approach them as a team, openly discussing ways to improve and get back on track. This transparency fosters trust and keeps the business aligned with its core values of integrity and collaboration.
