A Message From Our President – November

Nov 2, 2022

It is hard to believe it’s already November. The year has flown by so quickly and fall has certainly arrived to deliver on its promise – the leaves, the temperatures, the hours of daylight…

I am so happy to have just returned from NAWBO’s National Women’s Business Conference in Louisville, and I can’t tell you how nice it was to see 400+ women business owners in person. It was electrifying! If you can attend the next NAWBO WBC, you will find it’s filled with inspiring women attendees and speakers. We heard from two great keynote speakers: Molly Bloom (the Poker Princess) and Magie Cook, who sold her salsa business to Campbell’s for $231 million. These two women were worth the trip alone. We’re also proud that NAWBO Chicago was one of six “Chapter of the Year” finalists, and while the Cleveland chapter took home that award, Chicago still is the largest chapter in the country. I hope next year we will win Chapter of the Year!

But seriously, where did the year go? It’s been a whirlwind for me personally. In May, I sold my scrap metal company and last month I got married to the kindest man. Together, we have opened a property company and received our real estate licenses. We’re also excited to be celebrating my granddaughter’s first birthday, and there’s plenty more wonderful news I could share. But the point I am trying to make is I am so grateful for these amazing life events and opportunities, and for all the people who showed me love and support along the way.

We encounter people throughout our days and weeks who support and love us. Without that support, what might your life look like? Take a moment to prepare a list and you might be surprised by the number of people who support and encourage you and who touch your life in a special and unique way. I know there are so many people who have supported and guided me throughout my career. As we head into the holidays, be sure to tell each of them how they enrich your life.

I believe we should show gratitude as an attitude and mindset. Zig Ziglar said “Gratitude is the healthiest of all human emotions. The more you express gratitude for what you have, the more likely you will have even more to express gratitude for.”

I know we’re all busy and the world pulls us in thousands of different directions, but it’s so important to acknowledge your gratitude. Not just in a journal but to the people who have had an impact in your life. Tell them, or surprise them with a note of gratitude. Not only will they feel good, but so will you because gratitude is an expression of your love, your humility and your strength.  I assure you it will come back to you ten-fold.

Please take a look at your calendar and take advantage of two great upcoming events. NAWBO Talks is on November 9. Chapter member, Aneesa Muthana, will present “Sustainable Success: How To Get The Best Out Of Your Team.” On November 16, Board Member, Angie Noll, will present the virtual event “ERTC: Are You Leaving Money On The Table?” I hope to see you there.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving – may you be blessed with abundance and surrounded in the comfort of friends and family!

With gratitude,

Edie Fienemann
