Best Practice: Advisory Board
Chapter: NAWBO Chicago
Contact: Sheila Gidley, info@nawbochicago.org
Goal: To help chapter members address specific business issues and concerns, NAWBO Chicago created an Advisory Board that meets privately and helps their members individually.
Implementation: The NAWBO Chicago Advisory Board is a member benefit designed to help Women Business Owners address specific business issues they are facing in a confidential setting. The way the board works is that a member notifies the board of an issue that needs to be addressed and then a specially selected group of member experts are gathered to form an advisory board. They meet confidentially and provide help, information, direction, and advice to the member. The Advisory Board Committee tailors this member benefit to the specific needs of the member.
Results: NAWBO Chicago has had an Advisory Board for members for over ten years. It has been a great resource for members who may not want to reach out publicly for help. The members greatly appreciate this practice which helps with the Chicago Chapter’s retention.
